After a decade in healthcare and then several years working at the Health & Quality Commission, I was looking for a deeper way to contribute to the growing trend around both diagnosed and preference based dietary specialties. I have been incredibly inspired by the huge amount of research undertaken and have made it my mission to keep delivering new and innovative health-centric food and beverage solutions in the speciality diet space.
While supplements undoubtedly have their place, and we are big supporters of them, there is so much room for improved nutrition through raw, gluten free and allergen free foods at the ground floor that you can build on from there. There are some truly remarkable stories.
My husband and I purchased the long running Gluten and Allergy Free Shop from Lauren and Steve Cooke in 2019 with a vision to build on the 12 years of awesome work they did to keep pushing the boundaries on traditional eating habits. Rebranding as Gluten Free Me, we are committed to delivering both proven and emerging products to meet the needs of New Zealand’s growing population of people that care about what is either excluded or included in the food they eat.
One of the most frequent questions I am asked is ‘are you coeliac’ to which the answer is no. I have several close family members that are, however my drive is from the science based evidence around gluten, sugar, excessive meat and refined food and the health outcomes that result from changes to diets.
